Note: If you are building the old style roll pin instead of
the solid pin with the set screw through the end of the tail
shaft, then do page 20 first.
Note: The picture shows the tail that comes with the 50 kit (which
is the same as the 60 tail). The only difference with the one
that comes with the 30 is that the tail hub (18) does not have
the long shoulder extensions. Also the blade grips use M2 screws
instead of the M2 bolts with nyloc nuts (2).
Start by installing the two bearings (9) in the tail pitch slider
(21). Install a ball (28) and screw (4) in the side of the slider.
Next slide the assembly onto the tail pitch control slide bushing
(22) and thread on the tail pitch arm (20). Make sure the part is
threaded straight otherwise each tail blade will have a different
pitch. Also do not overtighten this part, only get it just tight
enough that the pitch slider (21) will not move back and forth.
If you get it too tight the bearings get become notchy and after
spinning this way for a minute could become hot and lock up. Next
install the control links (19) onto the pitch arm (20) using the
two pins (13). Slide this assembly onto the tail shaft (23). The
side with the control links (19) need to be toward the side of
the shaft with the two indentations (not the side with the hole
through it).
The next step is to install the tail hub. slide it on the end of
the shaft with the indentations and align the holes. If you have
the 30 hub then clean the long set screws (5), put a small drop
of red loctite on the end of the threads that go into the hub,
and screw it through the hub and into the indentations. If you
have the 50 hub then you will do about the same, but use a drop
of blue loctite on the threads instead of red. Slide the (8)
bearings on the set screws for the 30 or onto the extended
portion of the hub for the 50. Hold the bearings in place by the
nyloc nuts (6). Next you need to do a test fit of the blade grips.
Install them on the bearing and see if you can rock them side to
side. If you can then the grips are not holding the bearing
tightly. Sand the inside half of one of the grips until you get a
solid tail. Note that when installing the blade grips, the 30
uses two screws while the 50 uses two bolts with nuts on the back
side. The next step is to slide the sleeve (11) on the screw (3)
then slide this through the control link (19) and into the blade
grip (16). Note: You need to get the right orientation. Refer to
the 2nd picture to know which side the arms of the blade grips
need to be on.
